What You Need To Know About Rhinoplasty Before And After

The nose, being at the center, is a prominent feature of our face. Depending on how it looks like, it can make or break an individual’s appearance. Thus, it is vital that you have the kind of nose that suits the shape and size of your face and, most importantly, the kind that boosts your confidence regarding your looks.

But then again, it is very unfortunate that some people are born with an unattractive nose. Some, on the other hand, end up with an unappealing nose because of physical injuries or the inevitable aging process. However, it is not too late, with rhinoplasty being the solution.

Different races have different nose features. Thus, a specific approach is required in order to correct their problems.

Asian Rhinoplasty

The base of the noses of most Asians is generally wide in nature, while the bridge is usually flat. The radix, which is the area between the eyes, is usually low and flat. The tip is typically bulbous or round. The columella, which is the strip of cartilage separating the nostrils, is short and retracted. Nostrils are sometimes too flared.

With rhinoplasty, an Asian nose would typically be narrowed to suit the size of the face. In order to do this, the cartilage, bones, and nostrils would be reduced. The bridge of the nose would also be raised by moving the bones in the nose closer to it. A graft won’t be used because excessive elevation of the bridge in Asians would not look natural.

African American Rhinoplasty

Similar to Asian, the noses of African Americans are usually wide. The bridge is also flat, having short nasal bones. The tip is also bulbous with a gentle flat curve. The radix of the nose is usually low. Nostrils may be excessively flared.

The base of the nose of African Americans undergoing rhinoplasty is usually narrowed. The ala, which is the tissue around the nostrils, is also reduced, in order to eliminate the look of flaring nostrils. With the reduction of the ala, the tip also changes and is raised in effect. Basically, in order to preserve the ethnic beauty of African American patients, their nose base and ala are not reshaped to be too narrow.

Hispanic Rhinoplasty

The nose of the Hispanic is different from that of Asians and African Americans. The base and the bridge of their noses may be wide and the tip may be bulbous, but their radix and columella are usually higher and more protruded.

The target results for a Hispanic nose are a narrower base, smaller nostrils, and a higher and less curvy tip. However, these will be done in such as way that it would still look Hispanic-looking and natural.
